What to do in Fiji - Sigatoka Sand Dunes

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

They are located directly west of the mouth of the Sigatoka River, second largest river in Fiji. They are the product of fluvial erosion in the coastal hinterland and coastal dune forming processes. The extensive dune system covers an area of 650 hectares and comprises a series of parabolic sand dunes of various ages and activities. Half the area is unstable, especially in the east. The vegetation is predominantly native forest and introduced herbaceous communities.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes are the location of one of Fiji's earliest recorded prehistoric sites. Evidence of the past is clearly visible throughout the dune system as pottery scatters, stone tools, human remains and other archaeological relics continue to be uncovered by natural processes.
