Conversation on a wine shop

After having a look around, I realised that all the wines were from Australia or New Zealand. I am not familiar with these wines and the bottle I was buying was a gift so I didn't want to risk and I asked the "wine manager" (here, hierarchy is quite important…):

Me: Excuse me, do you have any European wine?
Wine manager: No, we don't have European wines but we have a Portuguese & an Italian.

Well, the EU definitely needs to put more effort on awareness raising…
